Benavent - Di Geraldo - Pardo
|
Flamenco-jazz
Carles Benavent, Tino Di Geraldo and Jorge Pardo are the foundations upon wich rests the New Flamenco sound. Through their work in countless recordings and concerts - with Paco de Lucía and Camarón, of course, but also with Miles Davis, Quincy Jones and Chick Corea - They have created a musical idiom that shows its more free and spontaneus face in this recording.
The trio consist of the most important and outstanding musicians of the Spanish young flamenco scene.
An extraordinary fussion whithin flamenco music and jazz concept. Performers that develop from jazz towards different courses, turning themselves into authentic musicians, and at the same time, playing instruments that traditionally are fitted into the jazz world.
The trío of Carles Benavent, Tino Di Geraldo and Jorge Pardo stems from the prior project of Benevant and Pardo. That sextet forged its own path in the history of new flamenco and culminated in the summer of ´98 after a monster tour that took them through all the major jazz festivals from Vitoria to Montreal.
It was in this sextet that, as an historical fact, improvisation occured over the strict rhythmic frames of flamenco with the jazzy attitude that stems from Pardo´s and Benevant´s earlier works.
With great perseverance and hard work, Benavent, Di Geraldo and Pardo have open the doors to an avenue of new music. They know this avenue will take them far and they have decided to continue this project in order to develop their musical freedom to the maximum extent through improvisation and the conversations of three solo instruments that fly through melody, rhythm and harmony indistinctly.
Now they present their new CD "El Concierto de Sevilla", which was recorded over two live concerts in the Teatro Central in Seville on December 1999. Here they review their individual work and create an extraordinary fusion of jazz, flamenco and mediterranean music.
Carles Benavent, bass; Jorge Pardo, sax and flute; Tino Di Geraldo, drums.
